Word of the year

Image
We’ve made it through the holidays, and entered into a new year. (Hooray for 2022?)   Working on new year’s resolutions and goal planner entries are pretty hot right now.   Me? I focus on my word of the year to kick things off. Last year, my word was DISCOVERY. I focused on exploring and learning in my business so I could give you the cybersecurity services you want and need.   This year, my word of the year is  STRAIGHTFORWARD . I selected this word because during my year of discovery I niched down and narrowed my services. Cybersecurity is so many things, and I offered and did so many things. But, all those things… it’s overwhelming for you, and... sometimes for me. Thanks to niching down - everything in my business is much more straightforward. Now, I can share information and solutions that are straightforward, and to makes it simple for you to select the help you need.   From now on, my business will focus on providing cybersecurity awarenes...

What's your 2022 cyber resolution?

Image
Here are 5 Cybersecurity Resolutions that you can put to use in 2022 at work AND at home.   1.       Fight Phish Keep your eyes peeled for phishing emails. That means checking the sender’s email address (not just the from name), hovering over links, and not falling for tricks that demand urgency.   1.       Enable Multi Factor Authentication (MFA) This adds a second layer of security to your accounts. Even if the fraudster has your password, he can’t access your account because he doesn’t have your code. Get MFA codes via an app, text, or email. Turn it on everywhere!    3.       Use a unique password on every site (hint: use a password keeper) Unique passwords are awesome. If a bad guy gets your password for one account, he can only access that one account. Now, if you were still using one password everywhere, he could get into all your accounts AND you have to change the passwo...

Leprechauns are never the hero of the story

In honor of St. Patrick’s Day yesterday, I thought I thought I’d follow the theme and share something about Ireland and leprechauns. A Trip to Ireland I visited Ireland many years ago, and it was a glorious trip. The Euro recently introduced to the country, and the exchange rate was not in my favor. What I remember most about the trip was how friendly everyone was. People smiled. Greeted you with kind words. When we needed advice on something to do or needed directions, everyone was glad to help. Sadly, I never did spy or catch a leprechaun. The Origins of Leprechauns Tales of leprechauns date back to the 1600s with mentions of little men and cobbling shoes. Later, they become associated with riches and gold. With all these stories, leprechauns are never the hero. He’s either helping or hindering the hero. More often than not he’s in a grumpy mood and he’s the ultimate trickster. Even if you catch that leprechaun, you’ll never get that pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Cybercrimin...

New Years Resolutions and Temperature Tuesdays

Image
If you caught my   Facebook  or   Instagram   Stories on Tuesday you saw a story about Temperature Tuesday Runzas.  What I didn't tell you was… it got me thinking about New Year's Resolutions.   If you're not from Nebraska you're probably asking yourself two questions right now. 1 - What is a Runza? 2 - What is Temperature Tuesday?   These two things go hand in hand around here in January and February.    Runzas are little, handheld, meat sandwiches with a mixture of ground beef, cabbage, onions, and spices.  I like to get mine with cheese.  In January and February, they run a special.  The temperature at 6 AM is the price of your Runza.    Tuesday it was 15 cents!   Now while I was looking at my Runza I thought, “Man this Runza looks skinny.”  This got me thinking… Many make a new year’s resolution to lose weight.  After a rough year in 2020 with COVID-19 and the quarantine 15 pounds who can blame us? ...
