Have you noticed that in addition to sharing
cybersecurity tips I also spend a like of time talking about spam and
email?
Are you wondering why a cybersecurity expert is
spending so much time talking about emails and spam?
Here's why...
Email offers TWO enormous opportunities. One
for cyber criminals to wreak havoc and another for businesses to
reach their clients.
You see, there are over 4 billion emails users
across the globe, and 95%
of them are checking their email EVERY DAY. This
makes email a very effective tool to reach people. If you can
get your message into the inbox, there is a prime chance that they
will see you and they’ll read your message.
And with 3
million emails sent EVERY SECOND, it's no wonder that
81% of emails are
being opened on mobile devices. It's probably because
FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) is real, and we don't want to miss a
thing!
It's easy to see
that people are living in their email and why is presents such an
excellent opportunity for good and evil.
Cybercriminals want to get in your inbox to either
scam you out of money or steal your information, your files, and give
you the gift of ransomware.
Businesses want to get in your inbox to build know,
like, and trust and to build a relationship with you.
Because everyone wants in your inbox, there are lots
of barriers to cross before that message can be delivered. That means
sometimes the bad buy gets in, and sometimes the good guy gets
blocked.
So WHY do I keep talking about email and spam?
- It's
important to tell the different between a scam and a legit email
- Email
is the #1 way a data breach gets started
- 150
billion spam emails are sent daily (almost half of all email is
spam)
- AND the
#1 reason I talk about it...
I started Silicon Prairie Cyber Services so I could
serve small businesses. I've learned that one a major hurdle faced by
small businesses is getting eyeballs on their emails because they
keep getting stuck in spam. I want to help YOU get the most out of
your email list, and that means getting YOU into the INBOX.
How do I do it? Through technical configurations
between your email provider and your email marketing service. I
configure an approved list to say which services are allowed to
send messages for you. Once
you have an approved list published, your open rate will go up 10% to
30%.
Don't worry, if you work for a larger business, for a
larger enterprise, or even for the government this same strategy will
work for you too. Plus, we can stop people from impersonating your
business and reduce the number of phishing emails coming into your
environment.
So if any of this sounds good to you then let's chat
today!
